FAQ

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique used in emergencies when someone’s heartbeat or breathing has stopped. It involves chest compressions and rescue breaths to help maintain vital blood flow to the heart and brain until professional medical help arrives.

CPR is crucial because it can significantly increase the chances of survival and recovery in cardiac arrest situations. By performing CPR promptly, you can help preserve brain function and keep the blood circulating, giving the person a better chance of a full recovery.

There is no strict minimum age requirement for CPR certification. The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests that children as young as nine years old can learn and retain CPR skills. The ability to perform CPR effectively is more dependent on physical strength than age. Some organizations may require students to be at least 12 years old to attend a CPR class, but many children are capable of learning and performing CPR techniques at a younger age.

At Born Force Training, we do not have a minimum age requirement for CPR certification. However, we do ask that the child has the attention span to participate in and complete the class successfully. Our goal is for every person to know and be confident using CPR as a life-saving skill.

Our CPR classes typically last about 4 hours, depending on the level of training and the specific course content. This duration allows us to cover all essential skills and provide ample hands-on practice to ensure participants are confident in their abilities.

We also offer an online blended version of CPR training, where you complete the class online and then have a 1 to 2 hour skills check-off. This flexible option allows you to learn at your own pace and still receive the necessary hands-on practice.

We can accommodate various group sizes, but for the best learning experience, we recommend class sizes of 8 to 12 participants. This ensures that everyone receives personalized attention and has plenty of opportunities to practice. However, we can adjust to larger or smaller groups based on your needs.

CPR certification typically needs to be renewed every two years. This ensures that your skills and knowledge remain up-to-date with the latest guidelines and techniques. Regular renewal is important because CPR skills can diminish over time, and staying current helps you maintain confidence and effectiveness in an emergency.

At Born Force Training, we offer convenient renewal courses, including in-person and blended learning options, to fit your schedule and keep your certification valid.

While AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are designed to be user-friendly and can be used by anyone in an emergency, having proper training can significantly improve the effectiveness of their use. AEDs come with clear, step-by-step voice and visual instructions that guide the user through the process, making it possible for untrained bystanders to assist in a cardiac emergency.

However, receiving formal training in AED use, often included in CPR and first aid courses, can provide you with the confidence and skills to act quickly and efficiently. Training covers not only the operation of the AED but also the critical steps to take before and after using the device, ensuring the best possible outcome for the victim.

In summary, while special training is not strictly necessary to use an AED, it is highly recommended to maximize the chances of saving a life.

Having AEDs and trained personnel in the workplace offers numerous benefits. AEDs can be the difference between life and death in a cardiac emergency, allowing for swift action when every second counts. They demonstrate a commitment to a safe and secure workplace, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and avoiding potential fines. The presence of AEDs provides peace of mind, making everyone feel safer knowing help is close by. Additionally, training employees boosts their confidence and fosters a strong, prepared team, ready to handle emergencies effectively.

AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) should be inspected regularly to ensure they are always ready for use in an emergency. It’s recommended to perform a visual check of your AED at least once a month. This includes checking the status indicator, ensuring the device is clean and free of damage, and verifying that the pads and batteries are within their expiration dates.

In addition to monthly checks, AEDs should undergo a more thorough inspection and maintenance at least once a year. This annual maintenance may include software updates, battery replacements, and pad replacements, as well as a detailed check of all components to ensure the device is functioning correctly.

Regular inspections and maintenance are crucial to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of your AED, potentially saving lives when every second counts. Please reach out to us with any questions you may have.
